Call for Papers

The rapid advancements in robots (industrial, mobile, humanoid, exploration, etc), edge and cloud computing have paved the way for the development of sophisticated robotic systems that leverage these computing technologies.

The Robotic Systems in the Edge–Cloud Continuum (RISE) is dedicated in exploring how robotics systems can be designed, implemented, and optimized by utilizing the edge-cloud continuum. At the same time, the workshop focus on how the respective hyper-distributed applications’ workload and data should be processed and stored in devices, in various edge computing layers and in centralized cloud resources, building an edge-cloud continuum.

The workshop aims to foster collaboration between the robotics and parallel/distributed systems communities, focusing on architectures, algorithms, and systems enabling real-time robotic perception, decision making, and coordination across distributed computing infrastructures.

Submission Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished papers that are not currently under review for other conferences or journals.

The papers should be formatted according to the LNCS guidelines. Papers should be between 10 and 12 pages. Accepted papers will appear in the official Euro-Par 2026 Workshop Proceedings.

Keynote Speaker: Associate Professor Tommaso Cucinotta

Title: Optimizing Execution of Real-Time Distributed Services in Cloud/Edge Infrastructures

Abstract: This keynote will present an overview of the major research challenges associated with the design and operation of Cloud/Edge infrastructures, focusing on the provision of end-to-end performance and availability guarantees for cyber-physical control and robotic applications while maintaining high levels of resource and energy efficiency. The talk will highlight research led by Prof. Tommaso Cucinotta across several complementary areas, including real-time operating-system support for mitigating temporal interference and noisy-neighbor effects in Linux-based platforms; the design and optimization of fault-tolerant distributed applications; the placement and orchestration of virtualized and containerized services to achieve performance–energy trade-offs; and the adoption of machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to improve the management and operation of Cloud/Edge environments. The keynote will conclude by discussing open challenges, emerging trends, and promising directions for future research in this rapidly evolving field.

Short Bio: Tommaso Cucinotta is Associate Professor at the Real-Time Systems Lab (RETIS) of Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy. He has a MSc in Computer Engineering from University of Pisa, and a PhD in Computer Engineering from Sant’Anna. His research interests include operating systems, predictable execution and adaptive CPU scheduling for real-time software systems, with reference to a wide variety of platforms, ranging from embedded systems to infrastructures for Cloud and distributed Computing and Network Function Virtualization (NFV). He has been Member of Technical Staff (MTS) in Bell Labs in Dublin (Ireland), investigating on security and real-time performance of Cloud and NFV services. He has been a senior software development engineer in Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Dublin (Ireland), where he worked on improving the performance and scalability of the DynamoDB real-time NoSQL data-store. Since 2016, he is Associate Professor at Scuola Sant’Anna and coordinator of the Cyber-Physical Research Area since 2019.
